In Nutley: Shirtless Man Yells Obscenities, Slashed Tires, Lightning Damage, Car Theft

Editor’s Note: The following incidents are taken directly from the Nutley Police Blotter, which may not include the full scope of police activity in the area. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
5/23/15
Stolen motor vehicle – Washington Avenue/Cambridge Heights area – Officers responded to a call regarding a motor vehicle theft of a 2011 Dark Gray Subaru Forester that was missing from the driveway. Owner was unsure if the vehicle was locked overnight, and officers did not observe any apparent signs of forced entry in the area. The Subaru was entered stolen in the database.

5/24/15
Burglary – Washington Avenue – Officers were dispatched to gas station located on Washington Avenue on a report of an activated burglar alarm. Observed on arrival was a smashed glass front door and Officers immediately checked the perimeter of the building while awaiting backup units before clearing the inside. The owner estimates the damage to the door to be approximately $950. The Detective Bureau arrived to process the scene and to assume the investigation, which is ongoing.

Criminal Mischief - Carrie Court – Officers responded to the area of Carrie Ct. on a report of criminal mischief. The homeowner stated that they observed damage to the front window of their house. There were no signs of a forced entry attempt to the home. Upon observation of the window, it had a circular break which appeared to be caused by a ball. It is a double pane window and only the front pane was broken. The value of the window could not be determined at the time of the report.
5/26/15
Theft - Van Winkle Ave. – The homeowner reported a stolen Schwinn mountain bicycle, which was left behind their shed and discovered missing. The bike is described as black and blue in color and valued at $400. The victim found an abandoned Magna mountain bicycle in the rear yard of the home close to where the mountain bike was secured. The Magna bicycle was taken into headquarters and secured in the bike garage. There are no known witnesses to this incident at this time.
Criminal mischief - River Road - The homeowner’s front right tire of their vehicle was found slashed. The replacement tire cost was $226. There are no known actor/s.
5/27/15
Criminal mischief – Faber Place – Two vehicles located in this area were found to have their tires punctured and were spray painted in black and gold paint. The Detective Bureau arrived to process the scene and detectives were questioning possible suspects. This investigation is ongoing.
Tree limb down – Lloyd Street - Three cars, two signs and a fence were damaged as a large tree was struck by lightning during the severe thunderstorm. There was no immediate estimate of damages at the time of the report. All parties were advised to contact their insurance companies and how to obtain a copy of their reports.
5/28/15
Franklin Avenue – Arrest on Warrant – An interview of a suspicious party located on Franklin Avenue resulted in the arrest of Laura Jacobs, 39, of Nutley for outstanding warrants out of Newark and Belleville. She was transported to Headquarters without incident and both jurisdictions were contacted regarding their warrants. Each jurisdiction released Jacobs on her own recognizance with her new Court dates.
Criminal mischief – Walnut Street – The homeowner reported that their doorbell rang and when they responded to the door there was no one there. Upon checking the area the victim noticed several eggs had been thrown at the front of their residence. The egg residue was washed off of the property. The victim was advised of their right to file a complaint should the actor/s become known.
5/29/15
Arrest on warrant – Chestnut Place – Officers responded to the area regarding a call of a suspicious male, walking around shirtless while yelling obscenities. The party stated that they walked from Paterson to Nutley but could not provide a destination they were trying to reach. Kwame Kemp, 34, of Paterson was placed under arrest for two active warrants out of Paterson and a child support warrant out of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office. Two officers from Passaic County Sheriff’s Office responded to Nutley Headquarters to assume custody of Kemp. No further action.
