Nutley Tenant Scammed Out Of Rent Payment By ‘Landlord’: PD
A Nutley resident was recently scammed out of a rent payment by someone who posed as their landlord, authorities said.

NUTLEY, NJ — A Nutley resident was recently scammed out of a rent payment by someone who posed as their landlord, authorities said.
According to the Nutley Police Department, the victim reported the incident on Aug. 8. Police provided the following statement about the incident:
“The victim stated that their email account had been compromised with someone posing to be their landlord requesting the rent be sent in a different format. After receiving instructions on sending the money via Western Union and complying, the victim received a message from the landlord asking when the back rent would be paid. It was then that the victim realized that they were defrauded.”
Nutley police said that the estimated loss to the victim came to $1,600. Detectives were advised of the incident, authorities said.
