Nutley Victims Report Pomeranian Puppy, ‘Hacker’ Scams: Police
A pair of scams took place in Nutley, one involving a phony "Microsoft technician" and another involving a would-be pet owner, police said.
NUTLEY, NJ — A pair of scams took place in Nutley last week, one involving a phony “Microsoft technician” and another involving the attempted purchase of a puppy, authorities said.
According to the Nutley Police Department, the following incidents were recently reported in the township.

April 27 – “Headquarters received a walk-in report regarding a fraud incident. The victim stated that they received a phone call from someone stating they were a Microsoft technician who informed the victim that their computer was being compromised by a hacker. The technician requested a check in the amount of $318 to resolve the issue. The victim wrote a check out to Enterprising Software Solutions LLC and the check was posted. Afterwards, the victim realized that it wasn’t a real company and contacted their bank to file a fraudulent check claim. The victim’s account was canceled and the financial institution advised the victim to file a police report so their fraud department could investigate further. Advisement was given on how to obtain a copy of their police report for their records.”

April 29 – “Headquarters received a report of fraud. Victim stated they ordered a white female Pomeranian puppy from a company called Home Town Friendly Pups. They sent $440 with an Amazon card and another $500 with a second Amazon card. Once the $940 was received they got a call from an unknown male stating they were in charge of transporting the puppy and they needed another $100 sent. The money was sent via Western Union. The money was not returned and officers attempted to contact the company with negative results.”
