Nutley Zoning Board Clears Way For Mixed-Use Building On Centre Street

The project at 434-438 Centre Street in Nutley is located in an R-2 district, which prohibits mixed-use buildings.

NUTLEY, NJ — Members of the Nutley Zoning Board of Adjustment cleared the way for 23 more apartments to be constructed as part of a mixed-use project at 434-438 Centre Street during their Monday public meeting.

The project is located in an R-2 district; under municipal code, mixed-use buildings are prohibited in that zoning category.

The Board of Adjustment may grant a variance from the zoning regulations of the Township of Nutley under certain conditions, according to the municipal website.

The municipal website states:

“No variance or other relief may be granted by the board unless such variance or other relief can be granted without substantial detriment to the public good and will not substantially impair the intent and purpose of the zone plan and zoning ordinance of the Township of Nutley.”
