Police investigate shooting death of 16-year-old Newark boy

Kyzeir Baker was shot on Spruce Street in Newark on Jan. 22 and died from his injuries six days later, authorities said.

A 16-year-old Newark boy has died from injuries he received in a shooting on Spruce Street in Newark two weeks ago, authorities said.

Kyzeir Baker of Newark and an 18-year-old man, whose name was not released, were shot on the 100 block of Spruce Street on Jan. 22, according to a news release from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Baker was taken to University Hospital in the city, and he died from his injuries on Jan. 28, according to the news release, which was issued today.

The 18-year-old man survived.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes Newark detectives, is handling the investigation. No arrests have been made.
