Retired Belleville Cop Pleads Not Guilty In Alleged Brother Shooting

John Towey of Nutley is accused of shooting his brother in the spine.

A retired Belleville police officer accused of shooting his younger brother in the spine has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

During an appearance in Essex County Superior Court on Friday, John Towey pleaded not guilty to charges resulting from the shooting his 58-year-old brother on Feb. 28 at Towey’s home on Race Street in Nutley, NorthJersey.com reported.

Towey’s brother had been staying in his home for a few days prior to the shooting, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated.

Towey’s attorney, Anthony Iacullo, has previously stated that “John, on that evening, did not intend or act in any way to purposely injure his brother,” NorthJesey.com reported.

According to Towey’s LinkedIn profile, he was a Belleville police officer for 26 years, a U.S. Navy veteran and a Trans World Airlines employee.
