Scammer Targets Nutley Residents, Claims To Be From PSEG: Police

A scammer is telling victims they're a PSE&G representative – which is false, police said. Here's the number associated with the calls.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley residents who recently got a call from an alleged “PSE&G representative” demanding payment for an unexpected electric bill may have been the target of a scammer, police say.

Last week, the Nutley Police Department announced that multiple residents have reported an attempted scam coming from the following phone number: (844) 581-0579.

The caller is telling victims that they are a PSE&G representative – which is false, police said.

“If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a representative from PSEG advising that your account is past due, then requests that you respond to a location and submit a payment or your electricity will be turned off – police warn this is a scam,” Police Director Alphonse Petracco and Chief Thomas Strumolo said in a joint statement.

Authorities said that anyone who receives a similar call can contact the Nutley Police Department for advice. They should not send any money or provide the caller with gift card codes.
