‘Self-Initiative’ Earns Belleville Cop A Nod As Officer Of The Month

BELLEVILLE, NJ — “Self-initiative” and a “consistent dedication to public safety” earned a Belleville policeman a nod as the department’s latest Officer of the Month.

The Belleville Police Department recently named Frank Buongiorno as Officer of the Month for January 2026.

Here’s what earned Buongiorno the award, the BPD said:

“Officer Buongiorno is highly deserving of this honor due to his proactive approach to policing and consistent dedication to public safety. Throughout the month of January, Officer Buongiorno’s self-initiated enforcement efforts resulted in a significant number of warrant arrests and DUI arrests, directly contributing to the safety and well-being of the community. In addition to his enforcement accomplishments, Officer Buongiorno demonstrates a high level of professionalism, sound judgment, and commitment to excellence in the performance of his duties. He is well respected by his peers and frequently serves as a positive influence and resource within the department.”

The Belleville Police Department commended Buongiorno for his “outstanding work ethic, initiative and dedication to service.”

“Congratulations on this well-earned recognition,” the department said.
