Several Nutley Residents Got Tickets For Not Shoveling Snow: Cops
Yes, it's illegal if you don't shovel your sidewalk fast enough when it snows in Nutley. And yes, the police do give out tickets.

NUTLEY, NJ — Yes, it’s illegal if you don’t shovel your walks fast enough when it snows in Nutley. And yes, the police do give out tickets.
After the year’s first blizzard dumped several inches of snow on the township, Nutley municipal officials issued repeated warnings to local residents about the local snow removal ordinance, which reads:
“All property owners are required to clear snow from sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of the snow event. When possible use grassy areas to pile snow. Do not bury fire hydrants with snow. Those caught burying fire hydrants will be fined.”
In the days to follow, so did several citations, Nutley police reported. Several took place on a single block: Humbert Street.

- Jan. 7 - Brookline Avenue – A report of a snow-covered sidewalk resulted in the homeowner being issued a township ordinance by officers.
- Jan. 8 - Race Street – Response was made to a property that was found to have not been shoveled within the appropriate time. The home appeared vacant and the owner was issued a township
- Jan. 8 - Povershon Road – Response was made regarding a sidewalk that was not shoveled within the property time allotted by municipal code. The owner was issued a township ordinance for un-shoveled sidewalk.
- Jan. 10 - Humbert Street – Headquarters received information regarding a sidewalk covered with snow. Officers observed the show was not shoveled from the past snow storm. He property owner was issued a township ordinance for failure to remove snow from the sidewalk.
- Jan. 10 - Humbert Street – While checking on another property on the same street, it was observed that the sidewalk was not properly cleared. The homeowner was issued a township ordinance for failure to shovel sidewalk.
- Jan. 10 - Humbert Street - Another home on the same street was not shoveled. The owner of the property was issued a township ordinance for a sidewalk that failed to be shoveled within the appropriate time.
- Jan. 10 - Humbert Street – The sidewalk of a home in the area was not shoveled after the past storm. The homeowner was issued a township ordinance for failure to remove snow from sidewalk.
