Storm Fells Tree In Belleville Church Cemetery
A short, violent storm tore down a large tree in the old Belleville Reformed Church cemetery, 24 hours before Independence Day.

BELLEVILLE, NJ — A short, violent storm tore down a large tree in the old Belleville Reformed Church cemetery on July 3. The incident forced local officials to cancel an annual Independence Day ceremony at the cemetery, according to Belleville Historical Society President Michael Perrone.
Perrone said that the massive tree pulled down electrical wires and landed in Rutgers Street, trapping passengers in one vehicle and closing the roadway for hours.
