Unattended Child Found In Stroller Outside Nutley Church: Police

The mother told Nutley police she accidentally left her toddler outside after picking up another child from school.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley emergency responders found an unattended toddler in a stroller outside a local church on Thursday, authorities said.

According to the Nutley Police Department, a concerned citizen alerted officers that they saw an 18-month-old child outside alone in a stroller in the parking lot of Holy Family Church.

When a Nutley police officer arrived on the scene, he immediately took the child inside the church to keep warm.

The Nutley Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad soon arrived at the scene and determined that the child should be taken to a hospital for evaluation, due to being left outside in the cold for “an undetermined amount of time,” police said.

While emergency responders were still at the scene, the child’s mother made phone contact with authorities. She told officials that she accidentally left the child outside the car after picking up another child from school.

Nutley police are investigating the incident, authorities said Friday. No additional information was immediately available.
