‘Unsupported Threat’ At Nutley Library Caused Traffic, Concern Among Parents: Cops
The incident caused "traffic congestion and widespread concern among parents picking up children from school," Nutley police say.

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley police have released additional information about an alleged threat at the Nutley Public Library on Tuesday that caused “traffic congestion and widespread concern among parents picking up children from school,” authorities say.
According to the Nutley Police Department, officers received a report about a suspicious incident involving possible threats at the Nutley Public Library around 3:30 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene soon afterwards and assessed the situation in tandem with school and library officials.
The area was contained as a precaution and officers temporarily relocated bystanders to a safe area, police said.

After conducting an investigation, officers identified two juveniles as the alleged threat-makers. Police charged one juvenile with creating public alarms and released him to his parents.
Charges against the other juvenile are pending, police said.

The surrounding streets became blocked during the incident, which caused “traffic congestion and widespread concern among parents picking up children from school,” police said.
Nutley Police Chief Thomas Strumolo said that nobody was in danger during the incident and that the threats were “unsupported.”
Strumolo added that police take every threat or suspicious incident “very seriously.”
Nutley Police Director Alphonse Petracco said that Tuesday’s incident demonstrates the reason why the municipal police department needs to beef up its numbers.
“In the event of a serious emergency, we need to have the necessary manpower to protect our streets,” Petracco said.
