Updates From BHS Students: Powder Puff Football and Candy Gram Fundraiser

The BHS Student Government Organization gave a public presentation Monday to the township school board.

Belleville High School's Student Government Organization (SGO) held a short presentation for the township school board during Monday night's meeting, which touched on upcoming powder puff football games, fundraising efforts, and other school activities.

Daneyah Nixon-Murphy, the SGO's vice president, gave the presentation. She and Adrian Pangilinan, the SGO's parliamentarian, were recently appointed to the SGO.

*An organizational meeting will be held mid March concerning powder puff football games for the year.

*A recent Valentine's Day "candy gram" fundraiser netted over $300.

*The SGO's community service committee is planning a blood drive in the next couple of months.

*The SGO's community service committee wants to invite a guest speaker for a student assembly on global issues.

*The SGO's school operations committee is looking at any proposed additions and changes to the existing school dress code.

*The SGO's events committee is in the planning phases for two events: a trivia show and a Winter Olympic event. Details will be forthcoming.

*Some students plan on forming a group open to the entire student body for the Breast Cancer Walk in May in West Orange. Details will be forthcoming.

*SGO has had some talks on the "Dec-A-Wall" event, which is tentatively planned for April 18 and 19 with judging to be on the 20th.

*March 16 has been scheduled for "Dress Down Day." High school students pay $3 while staff pay $5 to participate. Money raised will go towards "Project Graduation."
