WATCH: Belleville Fire Razes Home
A Belleville resident made it to safety, but a family pet perished in Saturday night's fire, authorities said.
Three Belleville residents safely escaped a house fire on Saturday night, but the blaze destroyed the home and claimed the life of a family pet, authorities say.
The fire started around 7 p.m. at the two-story Belmont Avenue home, which is owned by a 95-year-old local woman and also occupied by two upstairs tenants, ABC News reported.
Belleville Fire Capt. Frank Papaianni told NJ.com that the fire started in a couch in the rear of the home and extended to the second floor.

Firefighters made unsuccessful attempts to save a family dog on the second floor of the home, but the Rottweiler perished in the incident, NJ.com reported.
