Wave Of Catalytic Converter Thefts Reported In Nutley
Four thefts of the expensive car parts were reported on the same day. The next day, another took place, Nutley police said.
NUTLEY, NJ — A wave of catalytic converter thefts were recently reported on the same day in Nutley, police announced Monday.
The Nutley Police Department released the following details about the thefts of the expensive car parts, which took place on June 19:
- Ridge Road – “The victim stated that they observed a piece of metal on the ground next to their car and when they started it, they heard an odd noise. When they looked under the vehicle, they noticed the catalytic converter was missing.”
- Vine Street – “The victim said that upon starting their vehicle this morning, they heard a loud sound consistent with a missing catalytic converter. Upon checking the converter was missing from the under carriage of their car.”
- Mapes Avenue – “The catalytic converter on the homeowner’s vehicle was stolen at some point during the night. It was found to have been removed when they went to turn on their vehicle this morning and it made a loud sound.”
- Prospect Street – “The homeowner found their catalytic converter stolen off their vehicle this morning and had already brought the vehicle to the mechanic prior to reporting the incident to the police. Estimated cost to replace is approximately $1,800.”
Another theft was reported on June 20, Nutley police said. In that incident, which took place on Ackerman Avenue, the victim told officers that their car made a very loud noise when they started it.

Upon checking closer, the victim saw that the catalytic converter was missing, police said.
