BERKELEY, NJ — Berkeley Township residents in the township's section of Pelican Island will have police services provided by the Seaside Heights Police Department beginning at 4 p.m. on July 8, according to a message issued by Mayor John Bacchione and Chief Kevin Santucci.
The notice said the change is tied to a recently established shared services agreement. It states that all police services for the Berkeley Township section of Pelican Island will be handled by Seaside Heights police effective at that time.
"This decision has been made in the best interests of the community and both agencies to ensure proper and efficient police coverage and emergency response," Bacchione and Santucci said.
"Our shared goal is to maintain the highest standard of public safety while utilizing resources in a responsible and effective manner," they said.
If you need police assistance for a non‑emergency matter, please contact the Seaside Heights Police Department at 732‑793‑1800. In an emergency, always dial 911.
"We thank you for your understanding in this matter and appreciate your cooperation as we continue to work to provide reliable and effective service to all residents and visitors," Bacchione and Santucci said.
