BERKELEY, NJ — Two children under 10 died Sunday night after a boat in Barnegat Bay crashed into a channel marker, New Jersey State Police said.
The 30-foot Tidewater Custom 280 collided with an Intercoastal Waterway channel marker at 9:09 p.m., Trooper II Christian Postorino told Patch.
A 9-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy were thrown from the boat as a result, Postorino said.
The boat's operator, a 63-year-old Bayville man, and another occupant, a 64-year-old Bayville woman, found the two children unresponsive in the water, Postorino said.
The children were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead, Postorino said.
The crash remains under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
