BERKELEY, NJ — An 11-year-old girl died after a dirt bike she was riding crashed into a pickup truck in Berkeley Wednesday afternoon, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
The girl was a passenger on the electric dirt bike; it was driven by an 11-year-old boy, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
The dirt bike was heading north on Sherman Avenue at about 12:45 p.m. and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Moorage Avenue, Billhimer said.
The bike crashed into the driver's side door of a Ford F-250 pickup truck that was heading west on Moorage Avenue, Billhimer said.
The girl was taken to Community Medical Center where she was pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained in the crash, Billhimer said. The boy was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where he was treated and released.
The Ford driver remained on the scene, had a valid driver's license and showed no sign of impairment, Billhimer said. The driver was not identified.
The crash remains under investigation.
