BERKELEY, NJ — More than 100 veterans from New Jersey's 9th Legislative District were honored during a Veterans Recognition Ceremony held in partnership with Holiday City at Berkeley, the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs, the New Jersey Department of Military Affairs and the nonprofit Feeding Our Heroes.
According to the announcement, the 9th Legislative District is home to more veterans than any other legislative district in New Jersey. The event brought together Sen. Carmen F. Amato Jr., Assemblyman Brian E. Rumpf and Assemblyman Gregory E. Myhre to recognize veterans from across the district.
During the ceremony, Commissioner Vincent Solomeno of the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs joined Amato, Rumpf and Myhre in presenting and pinning each veteran with a New Jersey Service Medal and a medal recognizing their branch of military service. As each honoree's name, military branch and service were announced, the legislators and commissioner recognized their contributions and sacrifices in service to the nation.
"Honoring more than 100 veterans from our district was a powerful reminder of the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women who have defended our freedoms," said Amato. "These heroes answered our nation's call to serve, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never fully be repaid. It was a privilege to recognize their service and bring our community together to celebrate their contributions."
Rumpf, who serves on the Assembly Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee, said recognizing veterans and supporting their needs remains important.
"Every veteran has a story of service, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation, and each deserves our deepest gratitude," said Rumpf. "As a member of the Assembly Military and Veterans' Affairs Committee, I believe it is important that we continue to recognize our veterans, support their needs, and ensure that their service and sacrifices are never forgotten. It was an honor to stand alongside these heroes and recognize all they have done for our country."
Myhre said the ceremony gave the community a chance to honor veterans from the district in a personal way.
"These men and women answered the call to serve, often making tremendous personal sacrifices to protect the freedoms we enjoy today," said Myhre. "This ceremony was a meaningful opportunity to recognize their service personally and show our veterans that their contributions are valued, their sacrifices are remembered, and they will always have the gratitude of the communities they call home."
The 9th District Delegation also thanked Solomeno, Holiday City at Berkeley, the New Jersey Department of Military Affairs, the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs and Feeding Our Heroes for their partnership and support in making the event possible.
