BERKELEY, NJ — The transformation of the former Beachwood Mall site into the new Berkeley Town Center is getting closer and closer to becoming reality, Mayor John Bacchione said.
Bacchione took a moment to update residents on the site's redevelopment at the latest Township Council meeting.
"I think we're extremely close to the redevelopment, finally putting shovels in the ground," Bacchione said.
The site has been sitting empty for years. A contract for redevelopment was signed back in 2014.
Bacchione said it was just a matter of signing the PILOT agreement, and he hoped to see that in the coming weeks.
Several businesses are already confirmed for the new Town Center.

Bacchione said he was hopeful that progress would be made soon.
"I know I'm ready to see some development there," he said.
