BERKELEY, NJ — A motorcyclist was airlifted Friday morning after being struck by a bus that ran a red light, Berkeley police said.
Police responded to the area of Mule Road and Edgebrook Drive South just before 10:30 a.m. for the report of a two-vehicle crash, according to a news release. The crash was between a White Cam-Am Spyder motorcycle and a Stout's Omnibus.
The motorcycle was heading east on Westbrook Drive and the bus was driving north on Mule Road, police said.
The bus ran the red light, causing the motorcyclist, who was heading straight towards Edgebrook Drive South, to collide with the driver side of the bus, police said.
The motorcyclist was ejected onto the roadway, police said. The extent of the motorcyclist's injuries are unknown. They were semiconscious and were airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center via MedEvac for further evaluation.
The bus driver was uninjured and refused further medical attention.
The motorcycle was later removed by Jersey Shore Towing and the bus was removed by Accurate Towing at the owner's request. Both were removed without further incident.
The crash remains under investigation.
