'Backpack Fun Day' Giveaway Returns To Manitou Park

BERKELEY, NJ — Local churches and groups are hoping to once again help children in need by giving away backpacks full of school supplies.

"Backpack Fun Day" will be held again at New Hope Baptist Church in Manitou Park (171 11th St.) from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 26.

The church partnered with Living Water Community Church and O.C.E.A.N., Inc. to support children not only from Manitou Park, but any in need.

And the giveaway is only part of it - the community is invited to partake in live music, food, an ice cream truck, a fire truck and games.

Last year's event was a major success, with dozens of backpacks given away to families who needed the supplies.

Event coordinator Tina Daniel hopes this year will be even better.

Donations of backpacks, school supplies, gift cards and food are needed. All donations are tax deductible.
