Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association Host of Major Sailing Event
BBYRA more than halfway through its 10-week season

It was an action-packed week for sports, highlighted by the U.S. Sailing Chubb U.S. Junior Championships at the Toms River Yacht Club
The Toms River Yacht Club is one of the 14 clubs in the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association. The club was the host club for the Chubb Championships for the Sears, Bemis and Smythe trophies.
These are also known as the single-handed, double-handed and triple-handed championships, which indicates the number of sailors on each boat.

Nick Valente of Oakdale, N.Y. claimed the Smythe Trophy for the singlehanded event, edging out Jack Swikart of Rumson by a ten point margin. Valente finished in the top spot out of 20 skippers.
The Bemis Trophy for the doubleheaded championship was claimed by the sailing team of Pearson Potts of Newport, R.I. and Tristan Sess of Center Moriches, N.Y. It was a tight finish for the team as they registered finishes of sixth and fourth on their final day of racing, but held on for a seven point victory in the competition.

And lastly the tripleheaded championship featured 11 teams vying for the 90th annual Sears Cup, with the team of O.J. O’Connell of Niantic, CT, Ben Wilkinson of Noank, CT, and Kyle Seniff of Glastonbury, CT claiming victory.
