Barnegat Man Charged With Defrauding Bayville Sandy Victim

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has charged a Barnegat man with bilking a Superstorm Sandy victim out of more than $75,000 by failing to complete a home elevation.
Greg Montgomery, 36, owner of Barnegat-based GS Construction and Property Maintenance, was charged with second degree theft by failure to make required disposition, after an investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Offices financial crimes unit, Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato said.
Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office investigated the theft after correspondence was received from a victim of GS Construction. Montgomery is alleged to have received approximately $92,000 of the victim’s money to lift and renovate a Bayville home in October of 2013 and April of 2014, but had failed to complete the agreed-upon work.

Montgomery was lodged in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $35,000 bail. Any Ocean County resident who has contracted GS Construction and Property Maintenance for construction that was never completed should contact Detective Brad Frank of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit at (732) 929-2027.
