Bayville Girl Shines In Gymnastics Competition

A Bayville teen is leading the juniors all-around competition after the first day of the Proctor & Gamble U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Pittsburgh.Jazmyn Foberg leads the women’s junior all-around by six-tenths of a point over Emily Gaskins of Coral Springs, Fla., 57.600 to 57.000. Nia Dennis of Westerville, Ohio, is another two-tenths behind Gaskins in third place with a score of 56.800.

The finals are Saturday.Foberg, 14, an incoming freshman at Central Regional this fall, posted scores of 14.600 on the vault, 14.400 on the uneven parallel bars, 14.200 on the balance beam and 14.400 on the floor exercise on Thursday.

Foberg, a member of MG Elite based at Monmouth Gymnastics in Morganville, is coached by Maggie Haney and Victoria Levine.Foberg isn’t alone, however; in addition to family, she’s joined in Pittsburgh by MG Elite teammate and Bayville resident Ariana Agrapides, who is 32nd after Thursday’s competition.

Foberg is coming off winning the junior all-around title at the American Classic in Huntsville, Texas, in July, and placing fourth at the Secret Classic, where she also was among nine juniors who were invited to compete in the senior ranks.
