Berkeley Blaze 14U Captures State Championship

July 9, 2017 Berkeley Blaze 14U fastpitch softball team impressively captured the title of USSSA 14UB State Champions in Mount Laurel, NJ.

The Berkeley Blaze 14U travel team have spent years preparing for a tournament such as the USSSA State Championship. On July 8, 2017 they got their chance to compete at a high level with other talented teams from NJ.

After a record of 2-1-0 after pool play on Saturday, Blaze moved into bracket play on Sunday seeded 11 out of 26 teams. Beginning their first game at 8:00am they managed to defeat the Edison Angels. Next, the 4-2 win against the CJ Force Elite. After a short break, the Blaze challenged Amwell Attitude and defeated them in an International Tie Breaker (ITB) 10-7.

Out of one dugout and right into the next, Blaze entered the semi-final game against the number two seeded team, Black Diamonds. Blaze won 8-5 and were charged to be headed to the fifth and most important game of the day, the Championship game, against Jersey Intensity (Schwartz). The battle ended in the 5th inning due to USSSA regulation time limit with Berkeley Blaze victorious with a score of 9-8.

Each player was honored with a State Championship 14U B plaque and a custom USSSA State Champ jacket for their achievement.
