Berkeley Extends Quarterly Tax Deadline To June 1

Many New Jersey cities and towns postponed their due dates for taxes because of the coronavirus.

BERKELEY, NJ — Berkeley Township extended its quarterly tax grace period because of financial hardships associated with the coronavirus outbreak. The deadline was extended from May 1 to June 1.

Governor Phil Murphy issued an executive order April 28 that cities and towns could extend their deadlines for quarterly taxes. Many municipalities, such as Berkeley, held special meetings to formally extend the due dates.

Mayor Carmen Amato previously announced that Berkeley would extend the deadline in a special meeting. Berkeley passed the resolution Friday.

Interest charges reverted back to May 1 for any payments not made by June 1. Beyond the June 1 deadline, any residents still experiencing financial difficulties can call the tax collector to work out a payment plan.

The Ocean County Health Department has reported 505 coronavirus cases and 64 deaths as of Monday morning.
