Berkeley Police Charge Holiday City Man, 92, With Multiple Violations After Two-Car Crash

The other driver had to be flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after Samuel Zingarelli ran a red light, police chief says

A Holiday City woman was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center recently after her car was struck at the intersection of Mule Road and Davenport Road, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Police responded t0 the two car crash at 3:28 p.m. on July 5. Samuel Zingarelli, 92, also of Holiday City, made a left turn with his 1998 Oldsmobile onto Davenport Road in front of a 2000 Kia operated by Michelle Phillips, 32, the chief said.

After speaking with multiple witnesses police determined that Zingarelli ran a red light at the intersection and Phillips was unable to avoid a collision. Both vehicles had significant damage, DiMichele said.

Phillips was flown to Jersey Shore, where she was treated for injuries and released. Zingarelli was treated at the scene and refused further treatment, the chief said.

He will be charged with multiple traffic violations, including failure to obey a traffic device, careless driving, and failure to exhibit a valid insurance card. The traffic safety unit is conducting the investigation, DiMichele said.
