Berkeley Township, Ring Security Company Team Up To Fight Crime

The company known for its doorbell security cameras is offering a rebate, and Berkeley police hope homeowners will sign up.

BERKELEY, NJ — Video surveillance systems rise in popularity among homeowners seeking ways to deter crime, and with that in mind, Berkeley Township officials have partnered with one popular company to give residents an option — and a discount.

Mayor Carmen Amato and Police Chief Karin DiMichele announced the partnership with Ring, which was approved by the Township Council in December. Homeowners who purchase a system will be eligible for a $100 discount funded by the township and Ring, officials said.

"The subsidy program will be funded by forfeiture funds that were obtained by our police department, not tax dollars," Amato said.

"The subsidy program will be ongoing with various opportunities for community members to participate," DiMichele said.

The program will begin with a launch event from noon to 2 p.m. on Jan. 26 at Berkeley Township Town Hall, 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road.

Funded by Berkeley Township and Ring, the $20,000 program will enable 200 verified Berkeley Township residents to receive a $100 promotional code toward select Ring home security devices.

Ring officials say the security devices have helped reduce crime. "In fact, one Los Angeles neighborhood saw a 55 percent decrease in home break-ins after Ring Doorbells were installed on just 10 percent of homes," the company says.

At the Jan. 26 event, residents will register in-person to participate in the program and purchase their devices onsite on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring a valid form of ID and a copy of your utility bill to register.

At the event, you can learn more about Ring security devices, ask questions, and purchase products onsite. You also can learn how to join your digital neighborhood watch to receive real-time crime and safety updates with the free Neighbors app.

Other details of the rebate program are as follows:

  • If the promotion does not sell out during the kickoff event, the township will post an application to its website allowing other residents to participate until the program funding limit has been reached.
  • Discounts will be provided by Ring to confirmed Berkeley Township residents and applied during checkout toward the in-person purchase of devices at the event. Only credit card purchases will be accepted, no cash or checks.
  • Berkeley Township residents will have the opportunity to purchase the following devices with a $100 discount off the retail price:
    • Video Doorbell 2
    • Video Doorbell Pro
    • Spotlight Cam Solar
    • Spotlight Cam Battery
    • Spotlight Cam Wired
    • Floodlight Cam
    • Ring Alarm Security Kit (5-Piece)

Ring is also offering $30 off additional security devices with a maximum of two (2) per household, and 20% off accessories. Visit Ring's website for product descriptions and specifications.

Promotional codes are limited to one per household and cannot be re-used or applied towards previously purchased Ring products.

Residents will also need to pay an additional subscription fee if they would like to save device video footage or sign-up for the alarm monitoring service. For more information about Ring’s products, please visit Ring.com/products.
