Berkeley Twp. Seeks $135K For Waterfront Park, Boat Ramp On Bay

The application was on a list released by the DEP of requests from around the state.

BERKELEY, N.J. — Berkeley officials applied for state Green Acres funding to create a waterfront park and boat ramp along Barnegat Bay. The Township applied for $125,872.50 in Green Acres funding, according to information the state released this week.

The project would cost $543,490 in total, according to the funding request. The proposed recreational facility will consist of a playground area and a ramp that allows boats to dock along the bay. The attraction will serve residents and tourists.

The NJ Department of Environmental Protection's Green Acres Program seeks to protect open space and outdoor recreational facilities. Green Acres received 116 applications for land acquisition, park development and stewardship projects for 2019 funding. The program also received 61 supplemental-funding requests to previously approved projects.

Green Acres is currently reviewing applications for completeness and eligibility. The program will rank projects over the next few weeks.
