BERKELEY, NJ — Clifford B. Wright was a lifelong Bayville resident, a World War II veteran and a founder of the Bayville First Aid Squad. Berkeley Township found another way to carry on his legacy.

Amherst Beach was renamed the Clifford B. Wright Memorial Beach. Berkeley Mayor Carmen Amato and members of the Township Council attended the renaming ceremony at Berkeley Shores.

Wright served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He met his wife, Ethel, shortly after. Clifford and Ethel were married for 65 years. They had three children and several grandkids and great-grandchildren, according to Wright's obituary. He died in 2014 at age 86.

Berkeley Dedicates Park To Mastapeter's

Berkeley Township also dedicated a parcel of land to the Mastapeter family, naming it Mastapeter Park. The family lost its home on Amherst Beach after Superstorm Sandy hit.

The Mastapeter's sold the land to the Township for below market value. Since then, Berkeley Township has expanded the waterfront property, created a passive-recreation area and developed a playground.
