Bernard Strauss, 88, Of Toms River, Owned Beachwood's Burger Towne Restaurant

The World War II veteran also worked for the Toms River School District.

Bernard Strauss, 88, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at Tallwoods Care Center in Bayville, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.

According to the obituary from Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, he was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. Bernard proudly served his country in WWII in the U.S. Navy. After moving to New Jersey, he owned and operated Burger Towne in Beachwood for 15 years. He later worked for the Toms River School System, retiring in 1992. Mr. Strauss was a member of the Novins Weisberg Jewish War Veterans Post #569. He was a very loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by them.

Bernard is predeceased by his parents, David and Sonia Strauss, his brother Nathan, and his sisters Claire and Beatrice. He is survived by his loving wife Ileane of 69 years, his son Lyle Strauss and his wife Debra, and his three grandchildren and their spouses: Mandy and Chris Chernaga, Rebecca and Travis Amble, and Tamara Strauss. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, his niece Lorraine Barolia, and his nephew Allan Strauss.

The family would like to thank the staff of Tallwoods Care Center for the excellent care he received.
