Central Regional Senior Accepts Prestiguous Appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point

Central Regional Senior Awarded Prestiguous Appointment to West Point! Read the whole exciting story!

Central Regional High School senior, Joshua Thomas Loughran, has been awarded an appointment to the Class of 2017 of the United States Military Academy at West Point.  Joshua was officially nominated by Congressman Christopher H. Smith of the 4th Legislative District and he has met all of the academic and physical requirements for acceptance.  In addition to his acceptance at West Point, Joshua was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania, Brown University and Duke University but chooses to attend West Point.

The United States Military Academy at West Point is a four-year co-educational federal undergraduate liberal arts college founded in 1802.  Loughran will report to West Point on July 1, 2013.  Upon graduation from West Point, he plans to continue on to medical school and become a United States Army physician.

Joshua Loughran is the Class of 2013 Valedictorian and additionally has received many honors and accolades throughout his years in Central Regional High School.  He was named an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Merit Commended Scholar and currently serves as the National Honor Society Vice-President, Math Honor Society President, Key Club President, captain of the Consumer Bowl Team, and is an officer in both the Math and Science Leagues.  During his junior year, Joshua served as the President of the Class of 2013.  He has been an inductee into the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, the Math Honor Society and the Science Honor Society during his four years at high school.

Academics have not been Joshua's only source of commitment to his school years at Central.  His extracurricular activities included peer leader, varsity volleyball, swim team, boys' track & field, and superintendent's advisory council member.  Outside of school, Joshua served as a delegate to the Hugh J. O'Brien Youth Leadership conference and the American Legion Jersey Boys State conference.  In the summer of 2012, Loughran was chosen to attend the esteemed New Jersey Governor's School in the Sciences.
