Well, its been a while. Trying to post these blogs are a bit of challenge. As soon as you are finally ready to post some news, it's old news in today's digital world.
Thanks to all my 'friends' that sent 'condolences' on my Phillies getting knocked out of the playoffs. Needless to say, it was quite disappointing, right Yankee fans? And uh, you Mets, Braves & Red Sox fans, exactly WHAT are you snickering about ... I do have to say that the last night of the MLB regular season was one of the most intense and amazing nights in sports. Oh well, that's baseball. BTW, gotta like the Rangers at this point, but please don't bet the house on it.
On to football, and who knows what we have in the NFL. Jets seem like the best team but flawed, Giants are not as 'good' as they looked so far, Seattle proved that. And the Eagles, talk about overrated. Combined with the Phillies loss, they had to close the Ben Franklin bridge last week, too many people lining up to jump!

Best Football team in our area? How about those CENTRAL REGIONAL GOLDEN EAGLES at 4-1! Kalyph Hardy is a once in generation talent, you most certainly want to come see him play. It has been a great fall sports season at CR, with Field Hockey & Girls Soccer in particular having great seasons too. And I have to add KUDOS to the Berkeley Patch for some great HS sports coverage, best I recall in a LONG while.
Little League sign ups for the spring season are set for November 11 & 12. Sign up early & SAVE $30, plus practice all winter. Details at BerkeleyLittleLeague.org -Little League RULES, For a Reason!

In other Central Regional news, the solar panels are up and running! Should $ave the taxpayers a lot of money - continuing the trend and benefits of the energy program the district has been using over the last few years. The new roof was in place for the start of the school year, the new efficient windows are going in as we speak (and look fantastic) and the new student drop-offs are complete. Last but not least, the schools are finally on city water and it has dramatically improved the taste and quality of the water. Dr. P. has to get lots of the credit for his leadership on these programs. They may not always work out, but he is always thinking outside the box, trying to solve the unique challenges at CR.
In the old news department, we sure got lucky with Hurricane Irene. While it certainly had blown itself out by the time it got here, we have never had a storm come right up the bay like it did. Folks were out of power for days after just gale force winds - I could only imagine what problems a storm with even mild hurricane force would do to our area. We got lucky - which means we are still due ...
We have an election coming up next month, our mayor and 3 council folks. I don't feel it would be appropriate of me to pick a side (I am an independent voter btw) I do have my mind made up on a couple, still undecided on a couple so we will see.
I can say that I have had the pleasure of getting to know most of the candidates and I think it is one of the better slates, on both sides, in recent memory. I think Carmen Amato and Jason Varano are both GOOD MEN and I look forward to working with whoever wins. And neither candidate deserves the vicious personal attacks that come from their various supporters. These are public servants with families, that do care. It is tough to put yourself out there and criticism comes with the territory, but they do not deserve or warrant some of the vitriolic diatribes that get launched at them. I would hope the electorate would not be swayed by name calling - probably wishful thinking. Good luck, gentlemen.
