Bringing home a D.A.D. (Diabetes Alert Dog)

As most of you know or most do not, we were on a journey to bring home a service dog for our son Deven. On August 12, 2012 Blaze his D.A.D. finally came home. It's been a long 15 months, very hard, stressful, a lot of work but very, very rewarding. Deven has a service dog because he suffers from a side effect of Type 1 Diabetes, it's called Hypoglycemic unawareness, he doesn't feel himself going to high or to low.

Bringing a D.A.D. home.

Like anything that's new in your life, your routine is upset, and you have to find a way to fit it all in. Our D.A.D.'s like anything else came with added responsibilities, dedication and a commitment.

We as parents with T1 children are stressed enough, and to think when bringing home a service dog is going to be effortless is a misconception. But if you are one who is dedicated and committed, It will work!

This journey, yet hard is such a rewarding road to be on because this road has many bends and around each bend is always a new and exciting experience.

Everyday Blaze seems to do it again, Alerts after Alerts and his willingness to not only learn but how fast he does and how rewarding it is not only to us but to him as well. The shaking of his tail and the kissing of our faces says to us that he is happy and has accomplished once again something new!!

The road that we have chosen, has two ends; one that leads forward and the other goes backwards, we will never regret going forward EVER; with the decision that we have made and we will never make the choice to turn around and go backwards. This road will only in time get better and bring on new experiences and new challenges that together; with our Warren Retrievers family behind us will always be going

forward!!! FOREVER!!
