Calm Seas On Ocean County Beaches, But Rain May Be On The Way

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ - If you're heading to the beach, try and go early. Rain may be on the way later.

The National Weather Service is calling for partly sunny skies with a chance of thunderstorms. There's a moderate threat of lightning. Highs will be in the mid 70s. The ultraviolet index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high, so bring the sunscreen if you are planning on tanning.

The rip current risk is low today, but rips can still occur at near jetties and other structures. Some beaches are guarded today, but not many. It's still too early in the season. Never swim on an unguarded beach and never swim alone or at night.

Waves will be around 2 feet, with southeasterly swells of 2 feet. The ocean water temperature is a chilly 61 degrees. Winds will be from the northwest at around 5 miles per hour, shifting to the east in the afternoon.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet will arrive at 10:40 a.m. High tide will arrive at 4:54 p.m., followed by another low tide this evening at 11:27 p.m.
