
The senior-laden Central Regional field hockey team opened its 2011 campaign with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday over Brick in Bayville.
The Golden Eagles (1-0, 1-0) received goals from Jess Sudia, Fran Figurelli and Lauren Castellano as they beat the Green Dragons in Class B South.
Sudia, whose goal-scoring prowess helped power Central in 2010, opened the scoring at the 4:51 mark off a pass from Ashley Aires. Figurelli's tally on a scramble in front of the cage at 14:29 proved to be the game-winner, as Brick scored late in the match.

Central had 27 shots and 16 penalty corners in the game. The Golden Eagles next face Pinelands in Bayville at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
In cross country, the boys and girls both suffered tough losses to Lacey at Lacey. The boys fell 15-44 and the girls were defeated 15-50.
