Stellar beach days replaced with cloudy skies, increased lightning threat, National Weather Service says

The beautiful beach days of earlier this week are gone for now, replaced by cloudy skies and chilly seas, according to the National Weather Service..

Skies will be mostly cloudy, with showers likely and a high of only 70 degrees, the National Weather Service says. Beach winds will be  from the east at five to 10 miles per hour.

The surf will be around two feet, with southeast swells of two feet. The surf temperature is a chilly 63 degrees. There is a low risk of rip currents today, but strong currents can occur near piers and jetties. Rip currents are also possible, especially during low tide.

If you are brave enough to swim, and the beach is guarded, swim only where lifeguards are present and ask them about any hazards in the surf zone.

The lightning threat is high, which means that thunderstorms are likely or expected.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet was at 5:30 a.m. The next low tide will occur at 11:43 a.m., followed by another high tide at 5:59 p.m.
