Coastal Ocean County Beach Report For Aug. 16, 2016

Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly cloudy skies today with isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures will be in the upper 80s. Beach winds will be from the south at 10 to 15 miles per hour.

The surf will be between two to three feet, with light swells. The ocean water temperature is 74 degrees, a 4 degree drop since yesterday.

The rip current risk today is low, but strong currents can still occur near piers, jetties and elsewhere, especially during low tide. Swim only in guarded areas and discuss any possible surf zone hazards with the guards.

The lightning threat today is moderate, which means that thunderstorms are possible. The UV Index is a 9, which the NWS considers very high.

High tide at Barnegat Inlet arrived at 6:43 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 12:54 p.m., followed by another high tide at 7:01 p.m.
