Coastal Ocean County Beach Weather Report For Aug. 23, 2016

A sunny, but cool day at the beach.

The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies with a hint of autumn in the air for today.

Summer is on the wane, with the highs only the upper 70s. Beach winds will be from the north at 5 miles per hour, switching over to the east in the afternoon.

Don't get used to the cool weather just yet. Friday the high will be 91, so this is just a taste of fall.

Waves will be between two to three feet, with northeast swells around two feet. The water temperature is 75 degrees. The rip current risk is low, but strong rips can still occur near piers, jetties and other areas, especially during low tide.

Swim only in guarded areas and talk to the guards about any surf zone hazards. There is no lightning threat today. The UV index is a 7, which the NWS considers high.
