Double Trouble State Park Sets August Walks, Family Programs, Tours

BERKELEY, NJ — Double Trouble State Park has released its August schedule of nature programs, family activities and historic site tours in Berkeley Township, with events planned throughout the month and no registration required.

The park's August offerings include Sunday Serenity Strolls on Aug. 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The program notice says visitors can “Join Naturalist Lisa for Sunday Serenity Stroll of up to 3 miles at Double Trouble State Park!” The listing states the hike duration and difficulty will be based on participants’ ability, and that the adult program starts at the white information building closest to the parking area.

A separate series of Sunday Funday Activities is scheduled for Aug. 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. According to the program listing, all ages are welcome, the events begin at the same white information building, and rain will cancel the programs. The Aug. 2 program, Beavers: Architects of the Wild, invites visitors to “Help us celebrate 250 years of America with a 25.0-minute hike where we will observe the engineering wonders Beavers create.”

On Aug. 9, Wingspan: Owl Edition will feature “a 25.0-minute hike where we discuss 25.0 amazing facts about owls.” Soulful Stroll is planned for Aug. 16 and is described as “a 25.0-minute stroll to immerse yourself in nature and mindfully take in the forest with all your senses.” Nature Unscripted on Aug. 23 is billed as “a 25.0-minute hike to notice the wonders of nature.”

The month also includes a Sunset to Moonrise Hike on Sunday, Aug. 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The park listing says, “Join us on a short hike to watch the majestic sunset over the Mill Pond Reservoir. Cameras welcome.”

In addition to the outdoor programs, guided packing house tours are scheduled for Saturdays, Aug. 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 10 to 10:30 a.m. and 1 to 1:30 p.m. The tour notice says, “Celebrating the United States' 250th Anniversary! Join us for an exciting, guided tour of the historic Double Trouble Village State Historic Site!” The listing says no reservations are necessary.

The tour description says visitors can explore the packing house and learn about its agricultural history at the century-old cranberry sorting and packing house. If a guided tour is canceled, the notice says it will be posted on the cover photo of Facebook.com/DoubleTroubleStatePark.
