Eatontown Man Charged With Holiday City Burglary A Week After His Release From State Prison

Robert Meloni, 51, was released on Nov. 24 after serving time for burglaries in Berkeley, Toms River and Brick Township.

Little more than a week after he was released from state prison after serving time for numerous burglaries, Robert Meloni is at it again.

Berkeley Township detectives recently conducted a surveillance operation for senior home burglaries after reviewing prior case history and new information, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Meloni, 51, Eatontown, for at least one burglary on Edinburg Drive in Holiday City on Dec. 2. Meloni was located in Brick Township and arrested without incident, the chief said.

He was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools. Municipal Court Judge James Gluck set Meloni’s bail at $20,000 cash. More charges are expected as more victims come forth, DiMichele said.

Detectives from both Brick and Toms River police departments assisted and helped coordinate operations that led to Meloni’s arrest, the chief said.

“It should be noted that Meloni’s previous arrests in 2010 and 2011 were also the result of the same collaboration between all three towns and this information ultimately led to today’s swift apprehension only 1 week after his release from prison,” DiMichele said.
