Florida Man Drives Through Berkeley Stop Sign, Gets DWI: Police

The man crashed into several parked vehicles and damaged other fixed objects, landing on someone's property, police said.

A Florida man was charged with driving while intoxicated after driving through a Berkeley stop sign Feb. 4, Berkeley police announced Tuesday. The man crashed into several parked vehicles and damaged other fixed objects, landing on someone's property, police said.

The crash occurred on the 300 block of Western Boulevard, according to police. Richard Castorino's breath smelled like alcohol, Patrolman Jacob Camaraza noticed while gathering statements.

Castorino, of Fort Myers, also displayed slurred speech, a flushed face, bloodshot and watery eyes and admitted to drinking alcohol during the day, police said.

He underwent sobriety tests, leading to his arrest for DWI, police said. He was released to the care of a family member, according to police.

Officials issued Castorino traffic summonses for careless driving, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to stop and operating a motor vehicle while on the revoked list, police said. His vehicle was impounded as per John's Law.
