Free Smoke Alarm Installations For Berkeley Seniors

The Red Cross will install more than 700 smoke alarms in Holiday City as part of their "Sound the Alarm" events.

BERKELEY, NJ — Residents in Berkeley and Toms River senior neighborhoods will get free smoke alarms thanks to the American Red Cross.

Part of their "Sound the Alarms" events, more than 700 smoke alarms will be installed on April 28 and 29 for residents in Holiday City West, Silver Ridge Park North and Silver Ridge Park West.

Red Cross volunteers and the Manitou Park Volunteer Fire Company will team up to install the alarms, teach fire safety and help families create fire escape plans.

Teams will be out in neighborhoods on both days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Since the campaign's start in October 2014, the Red Cross has installed 48,000 free smoke alarms.
