Fundraiser For Injured Berkeley Officer Will Run From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Today

Tony's Pizza will donate 25 percent of today's proceeds to benefit Patrolman Robert Ashton

Berkeley Township police officer Robert Ashton is slowly recovering from serious injuries he received in a motorcycle accident in Waretown recently.

And some of his fellow officers have stepped up, volunteering to donate sick and vacation time to Ashton, who has been on the force less than three years, Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. said recently.

But Ashton - a Marine veteran who served three tours in the Middle East - has only been with the department for three years, so he doesn’t have much sick or vacation time accrued.
