Get Outside: Berkeley One Of Ocean Co.'s Best For Outdoor Activities

BERKELEY, NJ — Spring is a great time to enjoy all that nature has to offer, and according to a new report, there are few places better than Berkeley to do so.

Niche, the website best known for its rankings of schools and neighborhoods, recently released its "2024 Best Places to Live" rankings. And in the new rankings, Berkeley was ranked as one of the "Best Places for Outdoor Activities in Ocean County."

Berkeley's "A" grade in outdoor activities is the highest in any of its Niche categories.

It's not clear what specifically goes into Niche's methodology, but Berkeley is home to several parks and beaches on the local, county and state level.

The variety of park offerings range from sports fields to natural Pine Barrens land to bay and ocean beaches.

Township parks include Veterans Park, which has plenty of sports fields and an amphitheater for summer concerts. You can go for a swim at the bay beaches at Allen Road Beach or Butler Beach, or in Cedar Creek at Dudley Park.

Berkeley Island and Mill Creek County Park are run by Ocean County and each offer unique fun. You can fish or crab at Berkeley Island, and enjoy the spray pad in the summer. Mill Creek offers playgrounds and trails.

Double Trouble State Park and Island Beach State Park are two beautiful parks, too. Explore cranberry bog history at Double Trouble, and enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in the state at Island Beach.
