House Fire Closes Route 9 In Bayville

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ -- A fire at a house in Bayville has forced the closure of Route 9 on Sunday evening.

The fire at 225 Atlantic City Blvd., shut Route 9 from JFK Boulevard to Scott Drive about 7 p.m., according to an alert from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.

The road remained closed as of 8 p.m. as firefighters continued to put out hotspots.

There was no immediate word on injuries.

Strong winds blew thick smoke from the fire across Route 9, completely obscuring the road. They also blew away from a building directly behind the house.

Firefighters from the Bayville Volunteer Fire Company, along with Pinewald Pioneer Volunteer Fire and Forked River Fire Department responded, along with Bayville EMS and others.
