Fire Destroys Home On Route 9 In Bayville

The fire shut down Route 9 for more than 2 hours.

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ -- A fire destroyed a home on Route 9 in Bayville Sunday evening.

The fire, at 225 Atlantic City Blvd., shut Route 9 from JFK Boulevard to Scott Drive from about 7 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m., according to alerts from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters brought the fire under control about 7:45 p.m., fighting the blaze as strong winds sent smoke across Route 9, completely obscuring the road.

There was no immediate word on injuries.

The winds also blew away trong winds blew thick smoke from a building directly behind the house.

Firefighters from the Bayville Volunteer Fire Company, along with Pinewald Pioneer Volunteer Fire and Forked River Fire Department responded, along with Bayville EMS and others.
