After the walk, enjoy a bonfire and smores on the beach.

ISLAND BEACH STATE PARK, NJ — Looking for a beautiful and healthy way to kick off the new year? The Friends of Island Beach State Park are hosting a "First Day Hike" for 2023 where you can stroll down the scenic beach.

Held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2023, the walk is about one mile out and back, but the Friends of IBSP say you can turn back any time.

Weather permitting, the hike will be followed by a bonfire and smores.
