Law enforcement authorities are trying to determine how a 39-year-old man ended up driving himself to Community Medical Center Saturday with a gunshot wound in his chest, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Toms River police responded to the hospital on a report of a victim with a gunshot wound at 2:53 pm. on Nov. 14, said spokesman Al Della Fave.

Waymon P. Young, 39, arrived at the hospital driving a 2014 red Chevy Cruze with Maryland plates. Young entered the hospital and collapsed. He was treated for a gunshot wound to his upper chest, then airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he is listed in critical but stable condition, Della Fave said.
Law enforcement authorities tried to question him at Community, but he provided “limited information,” Della Fave said.

“Surveillance video showed Young arrived at the hospital alone,” he said.
Young’s vehicle was secured as part of the continuing investigation. The shooting is under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit, and the Toms River and Berkeley Township police departments. The victim’s place of residence is pending, Della Fave said.
