Mary E. Battell, 81, a lifelong Bayville resident, left us on January 14, 2016.
Even to those who knew Mary but casually, the hallmarks of her life were evident: service to family, friends, and community. Countless members of her community were the beneficiaries of her 35 years of selfless service on the Bayville First Aid Squad. For that service in 1999, she was duly honored as “The First Aider of the Year” for the State of New Jersey.
Mary is predeceased by her beloved husband Edward, who passed away in 1990. She’s survived by daughters Carol Maggipinto and Betti Ann Abrecht; grandchildren William, Stephanie, and Caroline Abrecht; great-granddaughter Sydney Abrecht; brother Harvey (Duke) Foster; and many nieces and nephews. Also among those feeling Mary’s loss are countless friends, including her two very best friends—dog Oscar and cat Mister.
